We hope you can join us later this month for the second edition of Awesome Con DC on April 18-20, 2014 at the DC Convention Center. Joe and I are scheduled to be on four/five panels, including a DC edition of The Other Side of the Table, which we’ve hosted at NYCC twice. We hope you can join us at table I12 as well the panels listed below — plus we might have some surprises up our sleeves…

Creating your product is only half the work it takes to succeed in the comics industry. What about the other half that we don’t see as clearly after the product is released to the world? This important panel will explore what it is like to be on the other side of the table, as a creator. We will discuss what it takes to exhibit at conventions, promote yourself, gain a loyal audience, and hopefully survive the life as comic book creator in today’s wild west industry – from the POV of professionals already behind the table. Moderated by filmmaker/comic writer Joe Carabeo.
Panelists: Joe Carabeo, Carolyn Belefski, Steve Conley, Matt Dembicki, Arsia Rozegar

Howdy y’all! There is a new Curls 6″ x 9″ print available on my Etsy store. It features Curls as a cowgirl riding her trusty mule, Teddy. This is a great opportunity to add color and fun to your wall at home or cubicle at work.

In 2011, I organized a panel at New York Comic Con to discuss the life of comics creators and help others become creators by revealing convention tips. Astray Productions filmed the panel on Friday, October 14, 2011 and it is now available to watch on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXSIYPkCHqU

This panel will explore what it is like to be on the other side of the table, as a creator. We will discuss what it takes to exhibit at conventions, promote yourself, and gain a loyal audience – from the POV of professionals already behind the table. Join creators Raina Telgemeier (Smile, The Baby-Sitters Club), David Gallaher (High Moon, Box 13) Reilly Brown (Amazing Spider-Man, Power Play) and Carolyn Belefski (Curls, The Legettes) in this conversation, moderated by Joe Carabeo.

On Saturday, March 8, 2014 I exhibited at the first-ever Smudge! Expo at Artisphere. It was a great day with many familiar and new faces swinging by the Curls Studio table.
So many people grabbed their free copy of Magic Bullet at the front entrance. I hope everyone enjoys the newspaper and other goodies they were able to discover yesterday.
Here’s a photo of Nick Galifianakis and I taken by Bruce Guthrie. Thanks to Matt and Tina for organizing the event and thanks to Artisphere for the venue space.
